Google Drive Cloud Storage With 5GB Free

Google Drive is a file storage and sync service by Google that was released on April 24, 2012. The service will integrate with Google Docs and will allow you to access files from anywhere and collaborate on documents with colleagues. Google Drive is an extension of Google Docs once activated, and replaces the URL docs.google.com with drive.google.com.

Google’s biggest competitor in this field is Dropbox, which currently offers 2 GB of free storage to users. One interesting feature of the service is smart tagging, which allows you to tag items stored on your drive. So if you have uploaded a picture of the Taj Mahal to your drive, the next time you perform a search for the Taj, your photo will show up along with other results.

Mark Zuckerberg was recently named Person of the Year by Time Magazine.The image below is one of several that shows users where their data is held and how the service manages to keep 500 million + users happy with the service.Unfortunately there's no details of what is running, or what the specs are of what is running, but it's certainly interesting to see how much goes on in the background to let you interact with users.

32GB in 2010 VS 20GB in 1980

A 20GB (eight 2.5GB) storage in year 1980 is 648000% to 758400% more expensive and 440000000% more heavy than a 32GB storage in year 2010. Fast forward 30 years and I suppose the comparison would instead be 20TB in 2010 vs 32TB in 2040?
