5 Most Greatest Achievements of the Human Mind

5. Evolutionary Theory

Probably the most controversial entry on this list, evolution inspires more heated debate and animosity between its adherents and detractors than any other scientific theory, but let’s get a couple of points out of the way. Darwin never stated that humans evolved from apes; they both have a common ancestor. Also, ‘On the Origin of Species’ (published in 1859) only mentions human evolution in passing, for two reasons: Darwin was wary of the response (‘Vestiges of Creation’ in 1844 had met with controversy), and there wasn’t enough evidence available at the time to make a detailed analysis of human evolution. That said, Darwin’s book brought about a classic paradigm shift; never again could man look at the natural world around him the same way (or himself, for that matter). As for Darwin, over the years his religious beliefs had eroded. By 1859, Darwin considered all religions equally valid, and was critical of the Biblical account of creation. The death of his daughter Anne in 1851 at age 10 had also contributed to his loss of faith, and he stopped attending church entirely (though he never quite became a total atheist).

Apple Chairman And Former CEO Steve Jobs Died [1955-2011]

Steven Paul Jobs, the co-founder and chairman of Apple, died Wednesday at the age of 56. Apple has also put up the following website in memory. They’re asking for “thoughts, memories, and condolences” to be shared by way of this email address: rememberingsteve@apple.com

Jobs remained Chairman of the Board at the company, as well as director and an Apple employee. He recommended that company COO Tim Cook take his place as CEO. Yesterday, Cook gave his first keynote address as CEO, unveiling the new iPhone 4S.

While that device had been the focal point of Apple’s website for the past 24 hours, Apple.com is now simply dedicated to Jobs, using a famous picture of him (above) that will also grace the cover of his upcoming biography by Walter Isaacson due out next month. Jobs had battled cancer, and in 2004 had an operation related to the disease. In recent years, illness had forced him to step back from his role as CEO of Apple on separate occasions. He also had a liver transplant in 2009 during one of those medical leaves.

That performance as well has his announcement that he was stepping down as CEO of Apple for the final time, led to two of my favorite posts that I’ve ever written.

Steve Jobs was 56 years old. Rest in peace, Steve.

Top 5 Popular Books Inspired By Dreams

5 Jonathan Livingston Seagull
In 1959, writer Richard Bach, an avid aviator, heard what he called a “disembodied voice” whisper the title of this novella into his ear. He immediately wrote the first few chapters of the work before running out of inspiration. He shelved the half-finished manuscript and it wasn’t until eight years later, after he had a dream about the now-famous titular seagull, that he was able to complete what is one of the most profound and philosophically-moving novellas ever written. Bach’s fable was a surprise best-seller, eventually surpassing the hardcover sales record, set by Gone With The Wind. He is quoted as saying, “You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg New Home

On Mark’s Facebook page, the 26 year billionaire listed his personal interests as “openness, making things that help people connect and share what’s important to them, revolutions, information flow, minimalism”. We don’t know if these life principles were the ones that indirectly led him towards this new home, a five bedrooms and around 3,800 square feet residence located in Palo Alto neighborhood, California. What we find intriguing is the fact that this place is a rental and that it looks quite modest when compared to other celebrity mansions. CEO Mark Zuckerberg currently lives just down the street from Facebook’s headquarters, where he is said to spend about 16 hours a day making sure that our networking needs are met. And yes, the black Acura parked in front of the house belongs to Mark.

"At the end of the day I am very, very sure that there is absolutely zero damage and in terms of the law, what I did now is not considered as a crime, so then that is the reason why I have been released," he told ITN. According to the Telegraph, Robert has climbed over 85 giant structures around the globe, including Chicago's Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) and Sydney's 57-story Lumiere Building, where he was promptly arrested after reaching the top.
